Phoenix, AZ (January 18, 2008) – The incomparable Margaret Cho, who just wrapped up a wildly successful run of her Sensuous Woman burlesque-style variety show, has announced she will return to her stand-up roots with her brand new one-woman show called “Beautiful.” The tour will make a stop in Phoenix to perform at Dodge Theatre on Friday, April 18. Liam Sullivan will open the 8:00pm show.

“Beautiful” will make its debut in Australia at The Sydney Theater on February 27, 2008. This will mark the first time that Margaret has premiered a new show abroad. Margaret quips, "I love Australia! The audiences are so smart and rowdy, it's really exciting. I love that they just voted out Bush's boyfriend, John Howard. How thrilling!" Immediately following the Australian dates, Margaret will launch a national U.S. run of “Beautiful,” beginning on March 14 in San Francisco and running through June. In addition, Margaret has been invited as a guest on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson Wednesday, January 23.

In describing what “Beautiful” means to her, Margaret explains, “I want to explore the nature of beauty. What is funny and scary about it, why we often don’t feel beautiful because our society’s standards are so rigid and unattainable. A DJ once asked me, “If you woke up tomorrow and you were beautiful, what would you do? If you were 6 feet tall, blonde, blue-eyed and weighed 100 pounds, what would you do?!?” Well, I probably wouldn’t get up in that case, because I’d be too weak to stand. If that is his only idea of beauty then I feel really sorry for him. I want everyone to feel beautiful and I want to do it with laughter. Why not feel good about ourselves?”

Comedian Liam Sullivan, known as internet sensation “Kelly," will be opening for Margaret. Liam has gained quite a cult following from his online short films, including his hit video, "Shoes," which is the 2nd most watched video of all time on Youtube with well over 11 million views. Liam just won a People's Choice Award this month. Liam was a crowd pleaser as his character Kelly in Margaret's off-broadway variety show, "The Sensuous Woman," and is sure to be a riot on her upcoming tour as he showcases new videos and characters.
