The Section Quartet

THE LOUDEST STRING QUARTET ON THE PLANET
PERFORMING AT THE RHYTHM ROOM
JANUARY 16, 2008

The show will include selections from FUZZBOX and a performance of
Radiohead's OK COMPUTER in its entirety.

Phoenix, AZ (November 16, 2007)- Formed on the principles of rock & roll, The Section Quartet (TSQ) fuses the worlds of classical and rock by tearing down the wall that divides the two genres. Simply put- The Section Quartet rocks! The show will make a stop in Phoenix to perform at the Rhythm Room on Wednesday, January 16. The show will begin at 7:30 pm with a soon to announced special guest.

Eric Gorfain (founder/arranger/violinist), Daphne Chen (arranger/violinist), Richard Dodd (cello) and Leah Katz (viola) complete the talented quartet. In 1998, they emerged in Los Angeles as a recording entity with a dual purpose: to function as a string “section” on other artists’ albums, and to take the rock string quartet to the highest level. Since that time, the band has studio and stage collaboration credits with major artists and producers from multiple genres including; Cristina Aguilera, Fiona Apple , David Bowie, Dave Grohl, Grant-Lee Phillips and Maroon 5 to name a few.

The band is perhaps best-known for their innovative, self-arranged renditions of Radiohead’s OK Computer and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. They also had the honor of performing at the much buzzed about Coachella Music Festival twice. Of their live shows, LA Weekly stated; “the fragile strains of the violin are enough to prompt open weeping in several spectators” and The Los Angeles Times thought the “arrangements proved entertainingly spirited and accomplished.”

On August 21, 2007 the band released their major label Decca debut Fuzzbox. In the CD the quartet showcases kinetic arrangements, bold performance style and an eclectic repertoire. The CD features The Section Quartet’s unique arrangements of songs from some of the most popular alternative and indie-rock acts around including; Radiohead, The Strokes, Queens of the Stone Age and Yeah Yeah Yeahs to name a few. This album promises to deliver all of the intensity and power of the original songs by melding the elements of rock with classical instruments in a way that produces an explosively energetic listening experience. “We like to think of ourselves as a rock band that just happens to play string instruments. Attitude, that’s what we bring to the table,” noted Eric Gorfain.

The Strokes’ “Juicebox” opens the album with a thundering bassline that takes hold of the listener and won’t let go… a true rock journey is about to ensue. Other stand-out tracks, Led Zepplin’s “Heartbreaker” and Queens of the Stone Age’s “No One Knows” stand on their own as impressive hard-rocking tributes, and their version of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” proves to be massive. TSQ also worked with producer Jon Brion on an incredible cover of “Phenomena” (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and the bonus cut “Teardrop (Massive Attack). Of the album, Gorfain stated; “We made it dirty when it needed to be, ugly when it needed to be, which made it bigger and better and fatter.”
